Extortion in the 'Beverly Hills' of Korea

Confronting Kkondae in Apgujeong!

I did not plan on making this video, but it's a gripe I've had for over ten years about the 'Beverly Hills' of Korea. Situated directly south of the Han River but north of Gangnam (the district proper) is Apgujeong-dong, Korea's original epicenter of 'Gangnam Style'. Though the hip and trendy now have numerous watering holes throughout South Korea, it's still the only neighborhood where you can shop luxury boutiques in stand-alone stores like Rodeo Drive or the Champs-Elysees.

However, despite the soaring real estate prices in the neighborhood, the buildings behind the boutiques are crumbling and the narrow, twisty roads with triple-parked cars are still third-world. Moreover, there's been one SHADY practice that's been going on for over a decade that's been STEALING money from innocent citizens - rich or poor. There's been an extortion racket via a traffic trap! Not everybody driving through this neighborhood to get to the bridge is rich. I would say the 99% use this road but yet, this rich town is deliberately trapping drivers into a fake traffic violation.

Did Sean pass by the other day and see it happening again? Check. Did he avoid the trap because he learned his lesson ten years ago? Check. But did he get fed up that it's STILL happening? Check. Did he drive to the nearest parking lot and walk back to confront the abuse of power? Check. Does he want to save other drivers from getting their money stolen from this RATCHET operation? Check.

What do you do about corrupt authorities hitting you hard in the pocket book? Just when you think you're trying to do the right thing and then... bam!
